COMMUNITY LIFE

In Memoriam

Twelve as a puppySometime around 1995, a puppy showed up at Prodigals' New Salem Campus. Residents in the program at that time quickly adopted him and named him "Twelve Steps." Those who knew him called him "Twelve."  Over the following years, like many others who have happened to make it to 1024 Waughtown Street, Twelve made Prodigals Community his home. He was part of the family. Twelve had an uncanny ability to know who to welcome and who needed to move on. Twelve passed away on Thursday, June 26.

Recent picture of TwelveOne of the current residents shared his feelings about Twelve:

"God gives us special gifts. Twelve was one of these special gifts that God gave to Prodigals Community. When we felt like we had nothing left, Twelve was there to show us that we were not alone. Sometimes in our darkest hour he would greet us and give us a sense of relief and peace that everything was going to be alright. He was an angel to some and had a never-ending love. That never-ending love is important to the recovering addict. Twelve will always have a place in our hearts and his spirit will continue to live on--the spirit of love, peace, and recovery.

T-Therapeutic to the soul

W-Warm to the heart

E-Enjoyable in every way

L-Loving to the end

V-Very precious and priceless

E-Everlasting in spirit"
